Some new books

I have been out of town lately so blogging has taken a back seat temporarily. I did, however, stop by a local bookstore, where I picked up the following 2 biograhies and 1 strategy book:

1. Machiavelli in Hell, by Sebastian De Grazia (This Book did win the Pulitzer prize)
2. Boyd: the fighter pilot who changed the art of war, by Robert Coram
3. Blueprint for Action: a future worth creating, by Thomas P.M. Barnett

If any of my readers have read any of these books I'd like to hear your opinion on them. According to Amazon.com the highest rated of the three is "Boyd."

I've read De Grazia - an excellent examination of Machiavelli's ideas.

De Grazia's book is good if you like intellectual biographies. He really gets into the psychology of Machiavelli.

Coram's book on Boyd is the best of the two in my opinion. It is actually one of the best biographies written within the last 20 years in my opinion. Coram is a really good writer and his story of Boyd is unforgetable.

The Barnett book is on my list.

The only one of the three I have read is Boyd. I agree with Tim. Coram is a perfect match for writing Boyd's life.

Thanks Kotare. First up for me is De Grazia'a book.

Tim---I skimmed through Boyd and it seems like a good read. Hopefully I should get to that in a couple weeks. Thanks for commenting.

Seth---Thanks for commenting.

Barnett's book is good. He's an excellent thinker, although I do retain a libertarian's cynicism about the power of large scale organisational solutions to problems we understand only imperfectly.

Vimothy---I have scanned through Barnett's book and it looks good. I look forward to reading it when I can. Thanks for commenting.
